Kota Marudu: Kota Marudu district is poised to be a major catalyst for the economic growth of northern Sabah with the construction of the Kota Marudu-Marak Parak-Melinsau-Poring-Ranau road.
Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili, said some 30 villages and 10,000 rural folk would benefit from the project.
"The new road will be a major catalyst for development of rural agriculture and tourism. The spin-offs will be enormous leading to improvements in rural incomes and expansion of the economy.
"It will be a major vehicle for the rural population of Kota Marudu to graduate from shackles of poverty," he said after performing the ground-breaking for the construction of the 110km road here today.
Ongkili, who is also member of Parliament for Kota Marudu, said the road would cost at least RM600 million.
